COVID-19: CRA Charities Directorate Halts Operations

On Friday March 20, 2020, CRA’s Charities Directorate ceased all operations indefinitely in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This announcement means all Charities Directorate services are currently unavailable, including call centres, charity registration activities and charity audit activities.


What this means for your organization

If you have submitted a charity application to the Charities Directorate, the application is suspended until the Charities Directorate resumes operations.


If your organization has an ongoing active audit with the Charities Directorate, it is suspended until the Charities Directorate resumes operations.


CRA has extended the filing deadline of your organization’s T3010. If your organization had a T3010 Charity Information Return due between March 18, 2020 and December 31, 2020, the deadline has been extended to December 31, 2020.



With the suspension of the Charities Directorate call centres, the Directorate is directing individuals seeking information to the Charities and Giving webpages on the CRA website. If you need additional assistance, we would be happy to help with your questions regarding operating a charity.
